The orchestra played german songs to which the people chanted and toasted with the local Deutsch Bier! We were possibly the first Indians in their village. The people were very perplexed and curious to see us. This fact helped while taking pictures, since the crowd gave lovely smiles! Absolutely loved the German dress code for boys and girls. A lot of art and intricacy displayed in the making of their traditional dress. We too had dressed up in our ethnic wear. Salwar kameez for us and a beautiful sari for Deo mam. This summed up the meaning of a real Cultural Exchange!!! What was left was to speak a bit German and to teach a bit of Marathi!!! Though that would take some time! But I did manage to speak a bit of German. That really cheered them up! After the festival ended, we returned to Sandra’s home for supper and then played a game of cards. We also taught Michael to play Challenge (a card game)! What an achievement!! Then we played till we were tired of losing to him!!! What an evening!! I don’t think anything could have been better than this, but the further fun was yet to begin!!!! Related Posts Join Our Newsletter

Even before entering her home, her family welcomed us into their heart! Such a lovely family!! Her dad, mom, sister, Fabian, Michael, all of them were such a loving little bunch of people. I cannot believe we spent hours talking about each other’s lives and aspirations, especially how different life is in India than Germany. Sandra’s dad was the Mayor of the city. He showed us their Primary School and Church. Their schools are fashioned in such a way so as to teach every kid to deal with any problem that arises in their life like fixing objects, being self reliant in every way. The village may be having less number of people but we never felt like we were in any way in a different place where we may need to adjust, thanks to Sandra and her family!! I will never forget those after meal chats we had in their balcony looking at the setting sun, since it never did set early as it does in India. Sandra’s mom is a person with whom I spent many funny and wonderful moments which I will cherish forever! And Carmen is someone with whom I have developed a strong friendship, thanks to our new age technology!! Last but not the least, each and every minute spent at Sandra’s house with her family would not be the same without my buddies Rewa and Tejal, Deo mam and our very jolly companion Sudheer Sir.
