Visiting Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein Castle in south Bavaria in Germany is one of the most exquisite and picturesque land marks I have seen in my life. It was barely the 5th day of our trip when we left Günzburg and headed for Austria, stopping on the way to visit Neuschwanstein.

Built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II to honour the life and accomplishment of Richard Wagner, is perched atop the mountains like an image right out of a disney movie. I realised that it was a wise decision to walk all the way uphill to the castle instead of taking the bus, since the journey uphill offered a marvellous view of the little village that we left behind as we ascended.

The winding road, horse-drawn carriages, sunlight piercing through the canopy above, sound of the stream… Everything we saw was thrusting me into a magical world!!! The castle too had its own persona. Each and every room within the castle had been dedicated to a 19th century poet, artist, or any influential personality by King Ludwig II. His righteousness was above all, and proven well when he dedicated his castle to various personalities. There was not a single room in the castle which would bear any indication as to its ownership. Unfortunately the King died within a few days of residing in it. But the castle still remains an epitome of beauty and a constant reminder of the King’s personality.

Our journey through the castle was not only informative and enthralling, but also provided us with a new view towards life’s celebrations and the people of the world! King Ludwig may not have lived in the castle for long, but his efforts have broadened the minds of countless individuals around the world and have taught us the pleasure in appreciating the talents of others!!
